The Great Fire of 1922
October 4th, 2012 marks the 90th Anniversary of the Great Fire of 1922. This great Fire, as it was known, was an irresistible wall of flame becoming one of the worst disasters in Canadian History.
Prior to the great fire of 1922, Evanturel (Heaslip) had a post office, Methodist Church, community hall, railway station, freight shed, section house, store and stables as well as a number of homes.
The Township of Evanturel suffered the greatest loss of life within the area during the Great Fire of 1922. Eighteen Evanturel individuals including children, lost their lives on that tragic day in 1922.
A book of memories was compiled by the Heaslip Willing Workers and is still available for purchase at the Municipal Office for $5.00.
